Military heritage

After commemorating Anzac Day last week, I am ready to find out more about our military history.  This is fantastic timing as the Seymour Military Heritage Weekend is on this Saturday and Sunday at Lighthorse Memorial Park in Seymour, ready to bring stories of our military past to life.

Saturday will feature re-enactments, battlefield scenarios, firing demonstrations, live music, entertainment for children and the night will conclude with a dazzling fireworks display.  Admission is free :D

On Sunday you can explore the past by visiting some of the significant military history sites in Seymour and surrounds (bookings are essential as numbers are limited). The Seymour and District Historical Society Inc. will also open the free exhibition  "Our Military Heritage" at the Pioneer Library from 12pm - 3pm on Sunday.

For more information and to book your place, contact: tourism@mitchellshire.vic.gov.au or phone 5734 6200.  You can also visit www.militaryheritageweekend.com.au

Or perhaps you'd like to look into our military heritage from the comfort of home?  Did you know that we have a special room at Seymour library that contains our military history books?  These can be perused and checked out at your leisure, just like any library item so you can learn all about our military history on your lounge suite.  Place them on hold online at http://libraries.mitchellshire.vic.gov.au/client/msls  or drop in to to Seymour library to check them out in person!
